ELKINS — Elkins High’s season came to a conclusion Friday night in a 12-10 setback to Bridgeport in Class AAA, Region II action.

The Lady Tigers finished with a 12-16 record.

Gabby Mahanes went 3 for 4 and had four RBIs for Elkins, which trailed 9-3 after the Lady Indians plated six runs in the second inning and were plagued by eight errors on the evening.

Senior Hailey Riffle went 3 for 3 with a triple. Riffle, however, will have one more high school game after she was selected for the Region II team in the Senior All-Star game.

Senior Maddie Lambert, who will also participate in the Senior All-Star game, was tagged with the loss, striking out four.

Parkersburg South 9, B-U 1

PARKERSBURG — Buckhannon-Upshur’s history making season came to a conclusion in a 9-1 setback to Parkersburg South Saturday in Clas AAAA, South Region action.

The Lady Bucs finished with school-best 25 wins this spring.

Saturday’s contest was tied 1-1 before the Lady Patriots scored six runs in the fifth inning.

Annalynn Windland cracked a two-run homer and Anniston Shelton added a solo blast in the frame.

Shelton allowed just two hits and fanned 16 in going all six innings to earn the win. She didn’t issue a walk.

Kynnedy Marple was tagged with the loss.

Marple and Payton Brown had the hits for B-U, while Zoey Burr had the RBI.

The Lady Patriots advanced to the state tournament.

On Friday night, Braylea Squires two-run homer in the fifth lifted the homestanding Lady Bucs to a 5-3 win over Woodrow Wilson in an elimination game.

The contest was knotted a 3-3 before Squires’ homer to center with Brown, who had led off with a double, on base.

Charity Talbott went five innings to earn the win, allowing three runs on four hits and fanning four. Marple worked two hitless innings of relief, striking out one.

Madi Knabenshue’s RBI single in the fourth had tied the game at 3-3.

Kristine Frye also had an RBI for B-U, which overcame a 2-0 first-inning deficit.
