SOUTH CHARLESTON — Pendleton County and Petersburg are still alive in state tournament action being held at Little Creek Park.

Defending Class A state champion Pendleton County eliminated PVC rival East Hardy, 12-4, in its first contest on Thursday and then knocked Sherman out of the tournament later in the day as Jessica Parker, Kinsley Price and winning pitcher Susan Vincell knocked in two runs apiece in a 10-5 win.

The Lady Wildcats will now face the winner of Thursday’s late game between Greenbrier West and Wahama at 10:30 a.m. today, with the victor battling the loser of Thursday’s late contest between Wheeling Central and Man for a berth in the championship game –needing two wins to win the title.

In Class AA tourney play, second-seed Petersburg continued the momentum from Wednesday night’s improbable win over Lincoln on Thursday with a 9-1 victory over Sissonville.

The Lady Vikings, who faced Logan in Thursday night’s late game — the winner advancing to the state title game — rallied from a 9-0 deficit against Lincoln on Wednesday to take a 14-12 victory.
