Prep baseball regional pairings revealed

ELKINS — Elkins High School is guaranteed of at least one game in the postseason after the WVSSAC released the regional brackets on Wednesday.
The Tigers are the fourth seed in the six-team Class AAA, Region II double-elimination tourney and will host Keyser on Monday.
Sixth-seed Lewis County visits No. 3 Hampshire Monday in the other half of the regional bracket.
The Keyser-EHS winner travels to top-seed Bridgeport, while the Lewis County-Hampshire victor visits No. 2 Robert C. Byrd.
Two teams from the region advance to the state tournament.
In the Class AAAA, South Region tourney, Buckhannon-Upshur is the sixth seed and visits No. 3 Cabell Midland to begin postseason play.
The rest of the Bucs’ bracket in the region includes No. 2 Hurricane, No. 7 Riverside and No. 10 Oak Hill.
George Washington is the top seed in the other half of the South Region, which will qualify four teams for the state tournament.
In the Class AA, Region II tourney, Philip Barbour begins its quest for a second straight state appearance by hosting No. 5 Moorefield on Monday.
Frankfort is the top seed in the Colts’ half of the bracket and will host No. 8 Braxton County.
In the other half of the bracket, No. 3 South Harrison hosts No. 6 Petersburg and No. 7 Berkeley Springs travels to No. 2 Lincoln.
Two teams from the region move on to state tourney action.
In Class A, Region II action, Tygarts Valley is the second seed in its half of the bracket.
The Bulldogs will host the winner between Monday’s game between No. 6 Pocahontas County at No. 3 Pendleton County in the double-elimination event.
Defending state champion East Hardy is the top seed in the region and entertains. The Cougars host the victor of Monday’s contest between No. 5 Paw Paw at No. 4 Tucker County to open postseason action.
The single-elimination state tournament, which now includes eight teams in each class, will be held June 6-13 at Marshall University’s Jack Cook Field.
