Prep softball regional pairings revealed

ELKINS — The pairings for next week’s postseason pairings for high school were revealed by the WVSSAC on Wednesday.

Elkins is the fourth seed in the six-team Class AAA, Region II double-elimination tourney and will host fifth seed Bridgeport in its first game.

Keyser is the top seed, while Lewis County is the second seed, Robert C. Byrd the third seed and Hampshire the sixth seed.

Buckhannon-Upshur is the sixth seed in the Class AAAA, South Region tourney and visits No. 3 Parkersburg South.

Four teams from the region advance to the state tournament.

Cabell Midland is the top seed.

The Lady Bucs’ bracket also includes No. 2 George Washington, No. 7 Parkersburg and No. 10 Woodrow Wilson.

Due to injuries, Philip Barbour will not participate in the Class AA, Region II tournament.

Petersburg is the top seed in the region and will face the winner between No. 4 Frankfort and No. 5 South Harrison to begin tourney play.

The rest of the teams in this region include Lincoln (second seed), Moorefield (third seed), Berkeley Springs (sixth seed) and Braxton County (seventh seed).

In the Class A, Region II tourney, defending state champion Pendleton County is the top seed and begins play against the victor between No. 4 Tucker County and No. 5 Pocahontas County.

Tygarts Valley is the third seed and will travel to No. 2 East Hardy in its first game.

The high school softball tourney will now include eight teams and will be held May 27-29 for Class A and Class AA and June 2-4 for AAA and AAAA at Little Creek Park in South Charleston.
