ELKINS — Dyer Barger and Trent Stone knocked in four runs apiece as fourth-seed Elkins erupted for 12 unanswered runs to cruise past fifth-seed Keyser, 16-4, in a Class AAA, Region II elimination contest Wednesday night at EHS field.
The Tigers now need two wins at top-seed Bridgeport to advance to the state tournament.
The contest was tied at 4-4 on Wednesday before Elkins plated eight runs in the third and four more in the fourth to end the game after the top of the fifth due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Barger singled in a pair of runs in the third, while Stone added an RBI double, Owen Stanley a run-producing single and Isaac Shepler a bases-loaded walk.
Blayne Thompson and Stone cracked two-run doubles in the fourth.
