Tigers drop 3-1 verdict to regional foe Keyser
ELKINS — Keyser scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to defeat Elkins, 3-1, in a battle of Class AAA, Region II foes on a cold and soggy evening at EHS Field.
The Golden Tornado broke open a 1-1 deadlock when Hunter Harr drew a bases-loaded walk and Cole Holland lofted an RBI sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.
The Tigers threatened in the bottom of the seventh when Isaac Shepler led off wit ha single but Williamson retired the next three batters to end the contest.
Elkins trailed 1-0 before drawing even in the fourth on James Linger’s groundout plated Brady Biller, who had led off the inning by drawing a free pass.
Lucas Williamson twirled a four-hitter to earn the win on the hill, striking out eight.
Braden Cooper took the loss in a strong five innings of work, scattering three runs on two hits and fanning three.
Owen Stanley tossed two hitless innings relief, striking out five batters.
Elkins (9-12) will travel to Fairmont Senior at 5:30 p.m. today for a Big 10 Conference matchup.
