ELKINS — Elkins rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim a 4-3 win over Petersburg Tuesday night at EHS Field.
Jaden Harding, who was the courtesy runner for Owen Stanley, raced home on a wild pitch for the game-winning run.
The Vikings had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh when Payton Metheny reached on a one-out single and later scored on Kaleb Kuhn’s single.
Braden Cooper led off the seventh for Elkins with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball and move to third on Blayne Thompson’s groundout.
Trent Stone’s sacrifice fly to center then sent Cooper home with the tying run.
Stanley kept the inning alive by reaching on an error and Brady Biller and Dyer Barger drew walks to load the bases. With Isaac Shepler at the plate, Harding tallied the winning score.
Stanley went six strong innings for the Tigers, allowing two runs on four hits and fanning 12.
Barger got the win in relief.
Elkins took a 2-0 lead as Stanley had an RBI fielder’s choice in the first and Barger a run-producing double in the second.
Lukas Wolford’s RBI double and Kuhn’s RBI single in the third tied the game.
Kuhn was the hard-luck losing pitcher for Petersburg, going 6 2/3 innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven.
Kuhn and Metheny each had two hits for the Vikings, who are now 8-15 and host Hampshire on Thursday.
Elkins (10-13) visits Hampshire on Saturday afternoon.
