Wolfe tosses one-hit gem as Colts blank Vikings

PHILIPPI — Kale Wolfe twirled a one-hit gem to lift Philip Barbour to a 9-0 win over Class AA, Region II foe Petersburg on Thursday night.

Wolfe struck out 13 and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Broty Sites led off with a single to left.

The Colts jumped out to a 4-0 over the first two innings as Anthony Mosesso had an RBI single, Kent Rowan and RBI fielder’s choice and another run came home on an error in the first inning.

Landyn Carpenter lofted a sacrifice fly to left in the second to plate Keagan Wolfe.

Philip Barbour tacked on single runs in each of the third and fourth innings to build a 6-0 cushion.

Parker Fincham scored Rowan on a suicide squeeze in the third and Robbie Jones’ single to left plated Carpenter in the fourth.

Landyn Carpenter then doubled in Fincham and Braxton Carpenter in the fifth and Cam Bennett raced home on a passed ball in the sixth to conclude the scoring.

Landyn Carpenter and Braxton Carpenter each had two hits for the Colts.

Owen Reel was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings. He struck out three.

Matthew McDonald and Lukas Wolford finished in relief.

Philip Barbour (11-10) returns to Big 10 Conference action at 5 p.m. Tuesday at home against Fairmont Senior.
