WVU golf earns NCAA Tournament berth

MORGANTOWN — For the third time in program history since it was reinstated in 2015-16, West Virginia golf will make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. On Wednesday afternoon, WVU was announced as a No. 9 seed in the Marana Regional at The Gallery Golf Club in Marana, Arizona.

The field in the Marana Regional includes No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Arizona, No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Duke, No. 6 Clemson, No. 7 San Diego State, No. 8 Arkansas State, No. 10 Florida Gulf Coast, No. 11 Saint Mary’s, No. 12 Tarleton State, No. 13 North Dakota State and No. 14 Iona.

WVU was a No. 8 seed in 2019 in the Louisville Regional and a No. 10 seed in the Rancho Santa Fe Regional in 2024. The Mountaineers finished third in 2024 and moved on to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1947.

The 2026 squad is coming off a Big 12 Tournament where it finished 16th, 14th and 15th, but still managed to do enough during the season to make the field.

WVU will participate in six 54-hole NCAA Regional tournaments that will take place from May 18-20. According to a release, 13 teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of the three regionals, while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams (30 teams total) and the low individuals (six individuals total) not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals

If WVU were to advance, the Mountaineers would attend the NCAA Golf Championships from May 28-June 2 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.

Starting at $3.92/week.
