B-U’s Marple named Big 10’s Softball Player of the Year

Elkins High’s Riffle, Lady Bucs’ Brown and Squires named to first team

ELKINS — Buckhannon-Upshur’s Kynnedy Marple has been named the Big 10 Conference Softball Player of the Year.

Marple, a junior, helped lead the Lady Bucs to a 25-10 record this season — the most wins in school history.

Elkins High School senior infielder Hailey Riffle, meanwhile, is a first-team selection on the team.

The Lady Bucs also placed freshmen Payton Brown and Braylea Squires on the first unit.

The remainder of the first team includes Robert C. Byrd’s Chloe Brown and Lexi Hardy, Fairmont Senior’s Kylo Dodd, Lincoln’s Aspen Dyer and Brogan Sampson, Grafton’s Isabella Hayhurst, Lewis County’s Brooklyn Oldaker and Bailey Oldaker, Preston’s Rhylinn Sanders and Bridgeport’s Reese Van Zant.

Lady Tiger junior catcher Gabby Mahanes earned second-team honors, along with B-U sophomore Maddie Tucker.

Lilly Boylen, (East Fairmont), Kassidy Edens (East Fairmont), Kinlee Hess (North Marion), Ruth Horne (Grafton), Sadie Jones, (Lincoln), Kerstyn Leggett (Lincoln), Kennedy Linville, (Lincoln), PJ McGinnis (Grafton), Amirah Moore (RCB), McKenzie Price, (Preston), Rayden Satterfield (North Marion), Jaelyn Smith (Lewis County) and Ella Vincent (East Fairmont) round out the second-team selections.

Lincoln’s Adriana Elder was tabbed the league’s Pitcher of the Year and the Lady Cougars’ Yancy Weaver the Coach of the Year.
