HUNTINGTON — After knocking off Potomac Valley Conference rival and defending state champion East Hardy on Saturday, seventh-seed Pendleton County is set to battle third-seed Sherman today in Class A state semifinal action at Marshall’s Jack Cook Field.
The contest begins 50 minutes after the conclusion of the 10 a.m. matchup between top-seed Huntington St. Joseph’s and fourth-seed Gilmer County.
The Wildcats of head coach Sam Yokum erased a pair of regular-season losses to East Hardy on the big stage by a count of 8-4.
Lead-off hitter Travis Owens and clean-up hitter Cashton Kisamore each knocked in two runs in the win.
Sherman, playing in the state tournament for the first time since 1990, advanced with a 10-0 win over Madonna as Luke Tagliente twirled a five-inning gem, giving up two hits and fanning seven.
