Trio of area athletes compete in New Balance championships

PHILADELPHIA. Pa. — Three area athletes competed in the New Balance Nationals Outdoor track and field championships this past weekend in Philadelphia.
The meet has stringent qualifying standards and is widely regarded as the sport’s most prestigious national competition.
Julia Biola, a rising senior at Elkins High School, ran an 11:11.05 in the two mile to place 93rd on Friday evening.
On Saturday, Kaya Barnes and Isabella Drain-White respectively threw 31-2.5 and 30-2.25 to place 34th and 39th in the shot put.
Barnes and Drain-White met the qualifying standards as eighth graders at Elkins Middle School and are set to attend EHS starting this fall.
