Wildcats fall to Sherman in state semifinals
HUNTINGTON — Seventh-seed Pendleton County’s season came to a conclusion in a 3-0 setback to third-seed Wahama Thursday afternoon in Class A state semifinal action at Marshall University’s Jack Cook Field.
The Tide (26-8) will face second-seed Gilmer County, which upset top-seed Huntington St. Joseph’s in Thursday’s other semifinal, at 10 a.m. today in the title game.
Luke Tagliente (13-0) tossed a two-hitter for Sherman in the win over the Wildcats, who finished with a 171-7 record.
He struck out nine.
Tagliente, Elijah Jeffrey and Colby Atkins had RBI singles to give the Tide a 3-0 lead after two innings.
Jaxon Simon and Mason Miller accounted for Pendleton County’s hits.
Chase Owens allowed three runs on seven hits, fanning five and walking one in going the first 3 1/3 innings.
Travis Owens and Miller finished in relief. Miller struck out two in two innings of work.
