50 players attend EHS Football Camp

ELKINS -- Over 50 players attended this year’s Elkins High School Football Camp held recently at EHS.
It was the third annual event conducted by Tiger head coach Chad Ware, who was assisted by his coaching staff, coaches from Elkins Middle School, Elkins Youth Football coach, and current EHS players.
“We ended up with around 55 campers total this year, which I thought was pretty good,” said EHS head football coach Chad Ware. “That’s about the same as we had out for last year’s camp, but every year we get new and different kids. But it’s a blast to get out there with the young kids and run around. We taught them some fundamentals and had some fun at the end with a couple of games. The coaches enjoyed it and our players who came out helped enjoyed it as well.”
Ware said it’s important that all of the football coaches from different levels in Elkins come together for the camp.
“It’s valuable any time you can unify the levels together at one time,” Ware said. “The high school program is only going to be as good as the feeder programs that come into it. So it’s vital that we have a great relationship with the middle school and youth coaches. With us all being on the same page, that’s what the ASONE mentality is all about. It’s about working together and trying to formulate the plan that will make football in Elkins as good as it can be and give our kids the best experience we can.”
The camp was for children kindergarten through the 8th grade. The camp was free and lunch was provided to all who attended.
“We want to try and make football fun for the kids who came out,” Ware said. “Football is hard and it’s not easy, but we wanted to make it fun and appealing to the younger kids. So that way they want to come back and they want to keep playing it.”
The Elkins High School football team will conclude flex practices this week. Fall practice for the Tigers will begin on August 3 and EHS will open the regular season at home against Lincoln on August 28.
