WVU men’s soccer releases 2026 schedule
MORGANTOWN — West Virginia men’s soccer’s path to a Sun Belt Conference championship and another NCAA tournament appearance has been revealed.
The Mountaineers are slated to play 17 regular-season games, and 10 of them will be at home in Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The first game of the season is on the road at Charlotte on Thursday, Aug. 20, and will have its home opener on Aug. 24 against St. Bonaventure. WVU starts Sun Belt Conference play on Sept. 17 against Georgia State.
The Mountain State Derby against in-state rival Marshall is on the road in Huntington on Sept. 27. Last year, Dan Stratford’s squad won the regular season matchup between the two, 3-0, but WVU lost to the Thundering Herd when it mattered most in extra time in the Sun Belt tournament, 3-2.
The Mountaineers wrap up the season on Nov. 3 at James Madison. Their final non-conference game is against American in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 12. WVU’s last home game is on Oct. 29 against Coastal Carolina.
The Mountaineers have a five-game home stretch, starting on Sept. 7 against George Mason, ending against local school Duquesne on Sept. 22.
The gold and blue have a couple of exhibition games in early August. The Mountaineers host rival Pitt on Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. and West Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. on Aug. 11, and they head to Georgetown on Aug. 17, which is at 7:30 p.m.
WVU looks to improve on its second-place regular-season finish in the Sun Belt and conference tournament performance, which ended in the semifinals. The Mountaineers hosted the first game of the NCAA regional, beating St. John’s 4-3, but lost in the second round against High Point, 3-2.
This is the final regular season of men’s soccer that’ll be played in the fall. The NCAA ruled in favor of changing the 2027-28 season to be split into the fall and the spring, starting in 2027-28.
