In the rich history of Elkins High School athletics, few players showcased the all-around talent, toughness, and big-play ability of Chris Flanagan. A 2000 graduate of Elkins High School, Flanagan was a three-sport letterman in football, basketball and track.
As a sophomore in 1997, he earned Second Team All-North Central Athletic Conference honors as a defensive back. His senior season, Flanagan earned Second Team All-State laurels as a utility player, and First Team All-NCAC honors as a wide receiver, while leading Elkins in both rushing and receiving. Flanagan finished the year with 17 touchdowns, 114 total points scored, and 959 yards on 57 receptions. He hauled in 11 receptions against Lewis County and totaled 211 receiving yards and fourth touchdowns against North Mation.
Flanagan excellence earned him a spot in the prestigious North-South Football Game, a recognition reserved for the state's top senior athletes. He received the North Team Scholar-Athlete Award from the game. Flanagan's athleticism extended beyond the gridiron. He was also a key member of the 1999-2000 Elkins High School basketball team, helping the Tigers reach the State Tournament, further showcasing his versatility and competitive spirit
