High school golf teams in action

TERRA ALTA -- The Elkins High School Golf team placed second in a quad match held Tuesday Alpine Lake Resort Golf Course.

Lewis County won the match with a score of 167. The Tigers followed with a 170 and Tucker County was third with a 178.

Kendrick Smith was the top golfer for Elkins with a 37. Luca Collier followed in third place with a 38 and Dyer Barger was 12th for the Tigers with a 48. Lincoln Fletcher (49) and Kaden Marcum rounded out the list of competitors for EHS.

“Alpine is a new course for all of us and I was proud of how Luca (Collier) and Kendrick (Smith) played for us not knowing the course,” said Elkins golf coach Dave Baird. “As a team we still need to get rid of the big numbers that can kill a round.”

Lewis County’s Dylan Hall was the low medalist with a 33. Hall’s teammate Eli Jones finished in fourth place with a 39.

Nathan Davis led the way for the Mountain Lions with a 40. Andrew Simmons shot a 42 for Tucker County.

Elkins will return to action today at Buckhannon-Upshur.

HOT SPRINGS, Va. -- The Tygarts Valley Golf Team placed second in a quad-match held Tuesday at the Omni Homestead Resort Old Course.

Staunton High School won the match by shooting a 120. The Bulldogs followed in second at 126 followed by Allegheny High School (138) and Bath County (172).

Parker Bell led the way for Tygarts Valley with a 41. Mason Davis followed with a 42 and Alijah Row-Sponaugle shot a 43. Cooper Markley (45) and Owen Bell (49) rounded out the field of competitors for the Bulldogs.

Tygarts Valley will return to action on Aug. 27 when it hosts a match at the Raven Golf Course in Snowshoe.
