Editor’s Note: The 2026 Randolph County Sports Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will be held on Saturday, August 29 at the Gandy Dancer Theater. The Inter-Mountain will be running profiles and photos of this year’s class in the days leading up to the ceremony.
Today’s inductee is 2018 Elkins High School graduate Alex Rosencrance, who became an outstanding swimmer from Tigers. From his freshman season through graduation, Rosencrance made his mark with record-breaking performances.
Rosencrance helped the Tigers qualify for the West Virginia State Swim Meet in all four seasons of his career from 2014 through 2018. While his team accomplishments were impressive, Alex's individual achievements set him apart as one of the region's premier swimmers.
Rosencrance earned All-Region and All-Conference First Team honors every year of his high school career, along with a four-year run as the Big 10 High-Point Champion. His junior and senior seasons marked the height of his dominance. As a junior he served as team captain, earning Big 10 Swimmer of the Year honors. That same year he finished third in the Individual Medley and fifth in the 100 Breaststroke at the West Virginia State Meet.
Rosencrance returned his senior year even stronger, repeating as captain and earning First-Team All-State, Male Swimmer of the Year, and Big 10 Swimmer of the Year honors. He capped off his final season with two second place finishes in the 100 Freestyle and the 200 Individual Medley at the state meet.
Rosencrance shattered four of the eight individual swim records at Elkins High School in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, and 200 Individual Medley. By the time he graduated, Alex had rewritten the school record book and established himself as one of the most accomplished swimmers in Elkins history.
