Bulldogs entertain Mountain Lions; B-U visits Philip Barbour

Elkins travels to Moorefield

MILL CREEK – Tygarts Valley and Tucker County will be looking for their first wins of the season when the two foes clash at Bulldog Field tonight.

Both teams are coming off season-opening losses last Friday night. The Mountain Lions dropped a 31-16 decision at home against Pocahontas County, while the Bulldogs were defeated 20-8 at Valley (Wetzel).

Tucker County, which claimed a 50-0 win over Tygarts Valley in last year’s matchup, was led in Week 1 by Cade Rapp’s 110 yards rushing and one touchdown on 21 carries. Raylan Rumer chipped in with three receptions for 31 yards in the setback.

Elijah Stanley threw for 40 yards for the Bulldogs in last week’s loss, while Conner Rose tallied 36 yards rushing on the ground.

Pocahontas County, meanwhile, will be back on the road again this week as it travels to Meadow Bridge, a 26-8 winner over Montcalm in Week 1.

In Class AA, Philip Barbour will look carry momentum from last week’s last-second 30-29 win over Grafton into tonight’s home game against Class AAAA rival Buckhannon-Upshur. The Bucs dropped a 68-0 decision at the hands of Bridgeport in Week 1.

Landyn Carpenter led the way for the Colts a week ago, rushing for 194 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries. Tristen Price added 112 yards receiving and a score for PBHS, which won the contest on a 20-yard field goal from Ayden Thorne. Robbie Jones threw for 234 yards and a score in the win.

Elkins will look to run its record to 2-0 when it travels to Moorfield for a non-conference matchup against the Class AA Yellow Jackets. The Tigers are coming off a 40-27 win over Lincoln, while Moorefield dropped a 34-12 decision at defending Class AA state champion Frankfort.

Seth Robinson ran for a school-record 326 yards and scored four touchdowns in Elkins’ season-opening victory at Tiger Stadium. Tony Silvester added 71 yards on the ground for the Tigers.

The Yellow Jackets will rely on running backs Caleb Finn and Bill Lewis to lead the offensive attack against the Tigers. Tight end/linebacker Mathew Iman is coming off a strong game on both sides of the ball for Moorefield, which fell 45-6 at Elkins last season.

All of tonight’s games are scheduled for 7 p.m. kickoffs.
