PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Davis & Elkins men’s soccer team remained unbeaten on the season with a 1-0 victory over Point Park University Saturday in Mountain East Conference action.
The Senators’ lone goal in the contest came just four minutes into the match when Benjamin Luengo scored his second goal of the season off an assist from Hugo Fauli.
Davis & Elkins College (3-0-1) held a 9-2 advantage in shots-on-goal for the contest and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Senators will return to action on Wednesday when they host Wheeling University for another conference contest at 7 p.m.
Women’s College Soccer
Point Park University 1, D&E 0
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Davis & Elkins College women’s soccer team suffered a third-consecutive loss, dropping a 1-0 decision at the hands of Point Park University Saturday in Mountain East Conference action.
The Lady Pioneers (3-2-0, 3-0-0) scored the only goal of the contest at the 47:06 mark of the second half when Reece Frank found the back of the net off an assist from Julie Rusiecki.
Point Park held an 11-10 edge in shots for the contest and tallied seven corner kicks compared to just two by the Lady Senators (1-3-1, 0-3-0).
Goalkeeper Gabriela Acevedo had three saves in net for Davis & Elkins, who will entertain Wheeling for another conference contest Wednesday at 4 p.m.
College Volleyball
Bluefield 3, D&E 0
BLUEFIELD – The Davis & Elkins College volleyball team fell at Bluefield Saturday in non-conference action.
The Lady Senators (0-12) lost in three games by the scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-18.
Kaylee Vanjo had seven kills for Davis & Elkins, while Alexandra Mattey had five and Jezabel Bernard 4. Neve Norris finished with nine digs and two aces for the Lady Senators. Khayla Garrett chipped in with a pair of blocks.
Davis & Elkins College will entertain Salem University today at 7 p.m.
High School Girls Soccer
Elkins 3, Keyser 0
ELKINS – The Elkins High School girls soccer team collected a 3-0 win over Keyser Saturday in non-conference action at Tiger Stadium. Grace Fletcher scored a pair of goals and had one assist to lead the way for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 2-5-1 with the win. Talia Nucilli added a goal and assist for EHS.
“It was a good win over a regional opponent,” said Elkins coach Jamie Hughes.
The Lady Tigers will travel to North Marion on Tuesday and Philip Barbour on Thursday for their next contests.
