Davis & Elkins edges Seton Hill; TV spikers trip Union

ELKINS – Davis & Elkins College took advantage of a pair of costly mistakes by Seton Hill en route to a 3-2 victory Wednesday in non-conference action at Nuttall Field.
With the contest deadlocked at 2, the Senators(2-0-1) received the game-winning score on an own goal by the Griffins (1-2-1) late in regulation at the 81:05 mark.
Davis & Elkins (2-0-1) took a 1-0 lead on the first of two own goals by Seton Hill at the 7:29 mark of the first half.
Seton Hill (1-2-1) knotted things up at 1-1 when freshman Rafael Santos scored off an assist from Ben Conti at 45:48 of the second half.
Hugo Fauli put the Senators back in front 2-1 when he found the back of the net 12 minutes after Santos’ game-tying score. Fauli’s goal was assisted by Abdourhaman Faye.
Conti’s goal at the 78:34 mark of the second half tied the contest for the Griffins at 2-2. Santos assisted on the score.
Davis & Elkins, which will return to action Saturday at Point Park University in Pittsburgh (Pa.), held a 16-3 advantage on shots-on-goal for the contest and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
High School Volleyball
MILL CREEK – The Tygarts Valley volleyball teams captured a four-set win over Union Tuesday night at TVHS Gymnasium.
The Lady Bulldogs won the match 25-6, 21-25, 25-16, and 25-19. Hallie Ellis led the way for Tygarts Valley with 11 blocks. Macy Bell collected 15 service points and Lilly Pingley chipped in with eight. Daelyn Leach added five blocks.
Kaylynn Louk paced the team in receiving, while Alexis Conti and Hallie Ellis led the Lady Bulldogs in attacks.
Tygarts Valley will return to action today at home against Bridgeport Heritage at 6 p.m.
High School Golf
CANAAN – Tucker County edged Tygarts Valley en route to a quad-match win Tuesday at the Canaan Valley Resort Golf Course.
The Mountain Lions finished with a team score of 166, while Bulldogs scored a 168. Pendleton County followed with a 169 and the Tucker County junior varsity team scored a 221.
The Wildcats’ Dylan Eye shot a 37 to earn low medalist honors. Tucker County’s Nathan Davis followed in second place with a 38 and Tygarts Valley’s Parker Bell finished in third place with a 40.
Alijah Row-Sponaugle shot a 41 for the Bulldogs and finished in fourth place, while Mason Davis placed fifth with a 42. Owen Bell and Cooper Markley both shot 45s to finish in a tie for 11th place. Drew Arbogast rounded out the field for Tygarts Valley with a 58.
