PHILIPPI – Gabe Martin ran for 153 yards and a pair of scores to lead Bridgeport to a 52-3 win over Philip Barbour Friday night in Big 10 Conference action at George Byrer Field.
The Indians (3-1) jumped out to a 7-0 lead on the game’s opening possession when Gavin Williams, who finished with 66 yards rushing in the contest, broke free for a long touchdown run at the 9:43 mark of the opening quarter.
After forcing the Colts (2-2) to punt on the ensuing drive, Bridgeport put together a 9-play, 77-yard drive that Martin capped off with a 29-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0.
The Indians pushed the deficit to 21-0 early in the second quarter when Graham Vincent scampered in for a 42-yard touchdown at the 9:43 mark.
Martin struck again for Bridgeport with 6:54 remaining in the first half when he raced in for a 24-yard score that extended the lead to 28-0.
On the first play of Philip Barbour’s ensuing drive, the Indians’ Maddox Conley recovered a Colts fumble and ran in for a 35-yard touchdown to make it 35-0 with 6:39 left to play in half.
Philip Barbour got on the scoreboard on the opening drive of the second half when Ayden Thorne banged in a 42-yard field goal at the 7:09 mark of the third quarter.
Bridgeport answered with a field goal of its own at the start of the fourth quarter when Jaylen Brown connected from 38 yards out to make it 38-3 with 11:57 left in regulation.
The Indians’ Vincent and Zach Hickman both found the endzone late in regulation to cap off the scoring in the contest. Vincent finished the game with 85 yards on the ground.
Bridgeport will entertain Robert C. Byrd next Friday. The Colts will travel to Elkins the same evening.
Bath County 20, Tygarts Valley 0
HOT SPRINGS, Va. – Ike Phillips rushed for 58 yards and three scores to power Bath County to a 20-0 win over Tygarts Valley Friday night in non-conference action.
The Chargers (3-1) took a 6-0 lead in the contest when Phillips scored on a 3-yard run at the 3:01 mark of the opening quarter. Walker Randozzo set up the touchdown with an 82-yard run. Randozzo finished with 200 yards rushing in the game.
Bath County extended its lead to 13-0 when Phillips scored his second touchdown of the game on a 7-yard run with 6:14 remaining in the first half.
Just before intermission the Bulldogs (0-4) had a chance to get on the scoreboard, but a drive deep in Chargers territory was halted when the clock expired on the hosts 1-yard line.
After a scoreless third quarter, Phillips scored his third touchdown of the game when he rumbled in for an 11-yard touchdown with 1:20 remaining in the contest.
Elijah Stanley rushed for 123 yards on 15 carries for Tygarts Valley, who will entertain Pendleton County next Friday.
