Tygarts Valley drops volleyball tilt; EHS golf team wins

MILL CREEK – The Tygarts Valley High School volleyball team fell to Bridgeport Heritage in non-conference prep volleyball action Thursday at Weber-Wamsley Court.
The Lady Bulldogs, who were coming off back-to-back 3-1 victories over rival Pocahontas County and Union High School, dropped the match in three-straight contests.
Tygarts Valley (2-5) will return to action on Monday when it hosts Highland County (Va.) for a 6:30 p.m. matchup. The Lady Bulldogs will then travel to East Hardy for a tri-match on Thursday.
Bridgeport Heritage will entertain New Life Christian Academy on Tuesday.
High School Golf
ELKINS – The Elkins High School golf team picked up victories in Grafton and Fairmont this week.
At the Tygart Lake Public Golf Course on Tuesday, the Tigers earned top honors by finishing ahead of Grafton, Robert C. Byrd, the Grafton junior varsity squad, and Philip Barbour.
Elkins’ Kendrick Smith was the low-medalist for the match after shooting a 40. The Tigers’ Dyer Barger and Lincoln Fletcher, Grafton’s Carter Gillespie and Mason Gray, and Robert C. Byrd’s Drew Spires all shot a 42 to tie for second place.
Braden Cooper (45), Luca Collier (45), and Isaac Shepler (46) rounded out the top performers for Elkins.
The Tigers then defeated North Marion and Preston in a tri-match held Wednesday at the Green Hills Country Club.
Elkins finished with a team score of 175, while the Huskies hit a 188 and the Knights 192. North Marion’s Austin Getz was the low-medalist with a 41. Luca Collier and Lincoln Fletcher followed in a tie for second place with 43.
The Tigers’ Kendrick Smith (44) finished in fourth place, while Braden Cooper (45) was seventh and Kaden Marcum (49) ninth. Jordan Hamrick shot a 53 for EHS, which was good enough for 14th place.
Elkins will host a match against Fairmont Senior and North Marion Wednesday at the Elks Golf Course.
Middle School Soccer
ELKINS – The Elkins Middle School boys soccer team earned a pair wins this week against Philippi Middle School and Mannington.
The Hornets claimed a 4-0 victory over the Bulldogs on Tuesday and a 5-0 win over Gators on Wednesday.
Maddox Crawford, Griffin Cutright, Wyatt Elmore, Lucas Osborne, Jayden McBride, and Jonah Marsh collected goals in the victories for Elkins Middle School.
The Hornets will entertain Lincoln on Monday.
