Tygarts Valley golf team captures PVC championship

SNOWSHOE – The Tygarts Valley High School golf team captured the Potomac Valley Conference golf championship Tuesday at the Raven Golf Course.

The Bulldogs finished with a team score of 363, ahead of Pendleton County (371) and Tucker County (388). Pocahontas County (449) and Union rounded out the tournament field.

Tygarts Valley was led by Alijah Row-Sponaugle, who claimed the individual conference title after shooting an 81. The Mountain Lions’ Nathan Davis (86) followed in second place and the Bulldogs’ Cooper Markley (90) placed third.

The Wildcats’ Beckett Aumann (92) and Dylan Eye (92) tied for fourth place, while Tygarts Valley’s Parker Bell (93) and Pendleton County’s Landon Davis (93) deadlocked in sixth place.

Mason Davis (99, 10th), Owen Bell (101, 12th), Drew Arbogast (122, 23rd), and Jakub Radar (128, 24th) rounded out the field of competitors for the Bulldogs.

Tucker County’s Andrew Simmons (97) finished in ninth place, while Cayden Arnold (102) placed 13th and Ethan Cummings (103) 14th. Carter Wilt (108, 17th) and Cade Rapp (114, 20th) followed for the Mountain Lions.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday at the Canaan Valley Resort Golf Course.

EHS Wins Match

FAIRMONT- The Elkins High School golf team won first place at a match held Tuesday at the Apple Valley Golf Course.

The Tigers scored a 181 to finish ahead of East Fairmont (184) and Philip Barbour (203).

Elkins was led by Kendrick Smith’s second-place score of 42. The Tigers’ Luca Collier shot a 44 and finished in third place, while teammate Lincoln Fletcher followed with a fifth-place score of 47.

East Fairmont’s Trace Tucker was the low medalist with a 40. Trevin Sisson (48) was top scorer for Philip Barbour, finishing in a tie for sixth place with Elkins’ Braden Cooper (48). Jordan Hamrick chipped in with a 49 and placed ninth for the Tigers, while Anthony Mosesso (51) placed 11th for the Colts.

College Volleyball

Salem 3, Davis & Elkins 1

ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Salem University Tuesday in non-conference action at the McDonnell Center.

After dropping the first game 25-22, the Lady Tigers won the next three contests by the scores of 25-11, 25-20, and 25-22.

Brianna Beyerle collected 15 digs, 14 kills, and two aces to lead the way for Salem University (9-4). Alexandra Vigneron added 11 kills, while Lorin Turkdogan had 14 digs.

Neve Norris finished with 23 digs and two aces for the Lady Senators (0-13). Liene Dujin added 32 assists, 13 digs, and one block.

Davis & Elkins will return to action on Friday when it entertains West Virginia Wesleyan for a Mountain East Conference matchup at 7 p.m.
