FAIRMONT -- Class AA, No. 8 Philip Barbour used the hard-nosed running of Landyn Carpenter and another strong defensive effort to post a 48-7 win over East Fairmont Thursday night at East-West Stadium.

Carpenter rushed for 233 yards and found the end zone three times in the first half as the Colts improved to 6-3 on the year to set up a Class AA clash at No. 7 Lincoln next Friday night in the regular-season finale.

Philip Barbour took control over the first two quarters on Thursday night, racing out to a 27-0 halftime lead.

A 26-yard run by Mason Jones on the Colts' first series of the night made it 7-0 after Ayden Thorne hit the first of five conversion kicks on the night.

The defense then recorded a turnover -- one of four committed by the Bees -- that led to Carpenter's 28-yard scamper to push the lead out to 14-0 with 3:46 left in the first quarter.

Another East Fairmont fumble then resulted in a Carpenter 3-yard run that made it 20-0 with 6:21 remaining until intermission.

Carpenter's third TD run -- a 7-yard bolt -- put Philip Barbour ahead 27-0 heading into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, the Colts went up 34-0 after a 51-yard bust by Carpenter led to a 4-yard run by Mason Jones with 9 minutes left in the third canto.

The Colts tacked on short touchdown runs by senior offensive linemen Kaleb Corder and Leon Brown to conclude the scoring.

Robbie Jones added 70 yards passing and 20 yards on the ground in the win, while Zeke Iwunor tallied 50 yards receiving.

After giving up one touchdown in the fourth quarter in a win over Lewis County last week, the Philip Barbour defense kept the Bees off the board until quarterback Tyler Hudson scooted into the end zone from 12 yards out with :38 left in the game.

East Fairmont dropped to 1-8 on the season and will battle city rival Fairmont Senior next Friday inside of East-West Stadium.
