Carpenter rushes for 233 yards, five scores in 40-7 win

PHILIPPI -- Landyn Carpenter and the rest of the Philip Barbour seniors celebrated their night in style Friday night at George Byrer Field at Freedom Bank Park.
Carpenter, one of the Colts honored on the night, rushed for 233 yard and scored five touchdowns in a 40-7 win over Lewis County.
Philip Barbour, eighth in this week's Class AA playoff ratings, did all of its damage in the first half, taking a 33-0 lead into the halftime break.
Carpenter started his night with a 20-yard score just 3 minutes into the contest and added another TD run later in the quarter to make it 14-0. Ayden Thorne tacked on both extra-point kicks to make it 14-0.
In the second quarter, Carpenter added a pair of touchdown runs, including a 45-yard gallop, and classmate Mason Jones rumbled in from 16 yards late in the canto to make it 33-0 at halftime.
The Colts' final score of the night was set up by senior Kent Rowan's determined effort on the second-half kickoff as his return off a squib kick reached near the Minutemen's 30-yard line and led to a 14-yard TD burst by Carpenter.
Lewis County got on the board in the fourth quarter when Zeke Brown hit Ian Brown for a score.
Mason Jones followed Carpenter's effort in the running game with 62 yards on the ground. He also had 20 yards receiving on two receptions.
Robbie Jones was 5 of 6 passing for 51 yards. Grayson Taylor hauled in two catches for 31 yards.
Ian Brown had five receptions for 104 yards for the Minutemen, who fell to 0-8 and will host Berkeley Springs next Friday.
Philip Barbour improved to 5-3 and will visit East Fairmont at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
