ROMNEY -- The Tygarts Valley cross country team competed in the Potomac Valley Championships Tuesday at Hampshire High School.

Although none of the Bulldogs were able to achieve personal records at one of their most demanding courses of the season, each runner continued to demonstrate the hard work, determination, and commitment that have defined this team throughout its inaugural year.

Taren Bennett led the Bulldogs with a time of 26:24, followed by Blake Channel, who finished in 29:11. Holden Sharp rounded out the team's performance with a time of 30:04.

While the challenging course made it difficult for the athletes to reach their personal bests, their efforts provided another valuable opportunity to gain experience as they prepare for the next stage of competition.

As the team looks ahead to the Class A, Region 2 Meet on Oct. 24 at South Harrison, coach Rich Sharp remains optimistic about the Bulldogs' chances of qualifying athletes for the state meet.

"As a coach, I believe we have a great opportunity to qualify some of our athletes for states when we compete at the region meet on October 24," coach Sharp said. "I have complete faith in these Bulldogs and know they will give their full effort as we prepare over the next week-and-a half. Qualifying athletes for states would be a tremendous accomplishment, especially in our first season as a team."

The Bulldogs have continued to show improvement, perseverance, and a willingness to push themselves throughout the season. Their dedication to the sport has been evident at every meet, and their coach believes that commitment will be especially important as they approach the regional competition.

"To see these three young men work so hard and remain committed to their sport has been incredibly rewarding," coach Sharp said. "I am extremely proud to be coaching them. They have put in the hard work, and I believe they have earned the opportunity to compete for a spot at the state meet."

With the region meet quickly approaching, Tygarts Valley will spend the next week-and-a half preparing for what could be a historic moment for the program. While the challenge ahead is significant, the team's determination and commitment have given coach Sharp every reason to believe that the Bulldogs can finish their inaugural season on a high note.

The Bulldogs' journey is not over yet, and the team will be ready to give its best when it matters most on Oct. 24.

Frankfort won both the PVC boys and girls titles.
