University’s Micah Gainer (15:22) and Logan Conroy (15:45) were the top two finishers in the boys race. Grafton’s Chase Maier (15:55) placed third.
Taren Bennett was the top finisher for the Bulldogs, followed by Holden Sharp and Blake Channell. All three runners are freshmen at Tygarts Valley, which is fielding a cross country team for the first time this season.
“With the majority of the course being relatively flat, runners throughout the field had an excellent opportunity to challenge their personal records,” said Tygarts Valley cross country coach Rick Sharp. “Our runners took full advantage of those conditions and all three of our athletes recorded personal records.”
Bennett cut 1:20 off his personal record time, while Sharp shaved 55 seconds off his season’s best finish. Channell knocked an impressive 2:00 of his best time of the season.
“As a coach, it has been extremely rewarding to watch these athletes continue to improve each week,” Sharp said. “While race times are one way to measure progress, the determination and commitment these three athletes have demonstrated throughout the season tell an even bigger story.”
In the girls race, University (44) captured first place, while Bridgeport (59) was second and Buckhannon-Upshur (95) third. Gwendolyn Rogosky was the top finisher for the Lady Buccaneers with a fifth-place time of 19:39. Isabella Bowers followed for B-U in 13th place (20:33).
