ELKINS -- The Elkins High seniors celebrated their night in style Friday night, as Cyrus Kump threw three first-half touchdown passes in a 56-0 Senior Night win over Preston.
The Tigers, fourth in this week's Class AAA playoff ratings, did most of the damage before the intermission, taking a 42-0 lead into the halftime break.
Kump started his night by hitting Seth Robinson on a 30-yard scoring strike in the first quarter and found Xavier Workman from 16 yards out later in the quarter. Dyer Barger tacked on both extra-point kicks to make it 14-0.
In the second quarter, Robinson broke loose on a 41-yard touchdown run for the first score of the canto, and Jaden Hatfield added a touchdown run with 8:19 left in the half to push the lead to 28-0.
Kump then hit Workman again, this time from 38 yards out, and Hatfield rumbled in for his second score of the night to make it 42-0 at the half.
Elias Jones opened the second-half scoring with a touchdown run to make it 49-0, and with the starters resting, freshman Matt Hollen added a touchdown run to close out the scoring.
Barger finished the night a perfect 8 for 8 on extra-point kicks.
Hatfield led the Tigers' rushing attack with 124 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Robinson followed with 107 yards on the ground to go along with his touchdown catch, and Jones chipped in 83 yards rushing.
Kump threw for over 100 yards in the win. Workman hauled in two catches, both for touchdowns, covering 16 and 38 yards.
It was a long night for the Knights, who were held off the scoreboard. They entered the game rated 18th in Class AAAA and are now 2-8.
Elkins improved to 9-1 with the win, the program's first 9-1 finish since 1980. The Tigers will host a first-round playoff game next week, with their opponent and game date to be announced this weekend when the WVSSAC announces the final playoff ratings.
