Saturday night card set at Elkins Raceway

There was yet another wonderful “Thunder in the Mountains” race event last Friday evening at Elkins Raceway. Threatening weather in the forecast caused car counts to be down somewhat but the competition was still hot. There’s a lot to cover in this column. I’m going to get right to the rundowns. First up, the Jenkins Ford Super Late Models had a small field and Michael Lake was able to take the win over Elkins’ own D.J. Miller. Bob Gordon finished third and it should be noted that fourth-place finisher Logan Hitt really put the pressure on Lake in the early laps, ...

Big weekend slated at Elkins Raceway

After a morning of rain and threatening skies in the afternoon and evening, it turned out to be a great night for racing at Elkins Raceway last Friday. There were several new cars in the pits to get a jump on the competition for this week’s doubleheader action. Speaking of which, don’t miss a lap of the action at our raceway this weekend. On Friday night the Red Frederick Memorial Race will kick things off with increased purses and laps in all divisions. The main event will be a 52-lap shootout for $5,200 to the winner of the Jenkins Ford Super Late Models. There will ...

Several changes made in hunting seasons

The 2018-2019 West Virginia Hunting and Trapping Regulations Summary can now be brought up online, and the hunting regulations booklet should be available in the Elkins Area in about 10 days. This year, there are more changes in the hunting regulations than what I normally see in any one year. Sunday hunting will be legal on public lands throughout the state. This means it will be lawful to hunt on Sunday in West Virginia on federal lands where hunting is permitted, in a state forest and state land owned or leased by the state for wildlife management purposes. Here is something I ...

Lake takes feature at Elkins Raceway

Threatening skies this past Friday night caused the crowd and car count to be down a little from last week at Elkins Raceway. For those who came on out, they were treated to some great racing. We were able to get the first autograph and picture night completed. There were 16 Jenkins Ford Super Late Models in the pits. The feature saw 14 cars take the green flag. Michael Lake pulled off the victory over Shane Hitt. Steve Wilmoth was sitting in third ready to take advantage if either driver made a mistake. He finished third. Cody Hardesty finished fourth. D.J. Miller brought the ...

Raceway crowns mid-season champions

It was a hot night at Elkins Raceway! There were fireworks in the air and on the track as the mid-season championship races took center stage. There was a standing room only crowd on the grand stand side and the pits were filled with some of the very best cars and drivers of this ...

Big night planned at Elkins Raceway

Apparently Mother Nature doesn’t want us to have Autograph Night at Elkins Raceway. Once again heavy storms moved through the area Friday and with more rain in the forecast for the evening track officials decided to postpone it to a later date to be announced. This Friday’s Thunder in the Mountains will be the mid-season double point races with extra purse money available in all the divisions — $2,000 to win Topless Super Late Models, $12,00 to win Topless FasTrack Crate Late Models, $700 to win in the AMRA Modifieds, $400 to win in the Street Stocks, and $300 to win in the ...
