In 2025, Kump Education Center will celebrate its centennial year with a big thank you to local workmen who built the house in 16 months, and local people who labored 16 years to preserve it for the next generation. The phenomenal preservation you will see at the Kump House is a credit to the dedication of local volunteers and excellent local contractors. Now we need to hire younger people to continue creating educational experiences and heritage learning opportunities.
This year our educational programming has focused on the importance of developing math and verbal skills for children and global understanding for all ages. In "Targeted Tutoring" students recognized their own power to learn by doing hands-on activities. Our "Wild Wonderful Woods" monthly lectures were well attended. Even on a snowy night, the fun of learning about buffalo in the Monongahela Forest brought us together. Our Kump Center wetland and City Tree Nursery offer learning opportunities for identifying invasive plants and pruning trees. Spanish Camp and a presentation of pictures from South Africa offered international insights for young and old.
At KEC we always seek to reward excellence in teaching. The 15th annual Kump Education Research Seminar was a time for future teachers to share ideas about best practices. In our Learning Lab "An Apple for the Teacher Tree" honors teachers who have made a difference in the lives of students. There is room on the apple tree if you wish to donate $500 to honor a great school teacher.
For our Centennial Year we are developing a new endowment trust to hire and train personnel to continue the legacy of learning that is the heritage of the Kump family teaching traditions. All gifts to Kump Education Center, P.O. Box 1106, Elkins, WV 26241 are tax deductible, and we can help seniors to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution [QCD] from an Individual Retirement Account [IRA]. Learning your ABCs is the beginning of economic success.
