Former delegate weighs in on controversy

As a former West Virginia Legislature Delegate from Randolph and Pocahontas County, I feel compelled to remark regarding the recent Facebook post by Delegate Coop-Gonzalez about the former Delegate Cody Thompson. There is a quote which says, “There is a destiny that makes us brothers, none goes this way alone. What we bring into the lives of others may come into our own.” A friend of ours, who later became a state Supreme Court Justice, gave me a piece of advice when I was elected. He said, “It is better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.” ...

We were visiting West Virginia and I read a column in your newspaper about Sen. Tim Scott. It was written by someone named Mona Charen and the column was not very nice, to say the least. Lies are often believed, until the truth is told. Tim Scott is my senator, and no part of him is a sniveling coward. Sen. Scott endorses school vouchers — which help everyone, including the poor. Thanks for clarifying Delegate Elias Coop-Gonzalez’s curious post-election obsession with his political opponent and neighbor for those who are not online. It helps educate those who may not recognize that this delegate is a curious fit for a town which I know to welcome every voice and persuasion for the common good. Recycling event deemed a success

The annual Randolph County Solid Waste Authority Electronics Recycling Event, held on June 3, was a success. A total of 214 residents of Randolph County helped keep the hills andhollows clean by disposing of 21,065 pounds of electronics. This would not have been possible without the help of some folks.
