100th Birthday

Carl “Junior” Winans of the Carrolton Community celebrated his 100th birthday on Feb. 23. Several family members, neighbors and friends attended to celebrate this remarkable milestone. The day was filled with joy and laughter in the presence of loved ones.

Skating days in Barbour

Hello from Barbour County! Strutters Baton & Dance Team will be sponsoring a half-price skate night on Feb. 24 from 6-8 p.m. at SkateZone in Belington. This event is open to the public for children of all ages. Have a heart and twirl. Say no to drugs. The Belington City election will be on March 4. Come out and make your voice heard. The Belington Bakery will be hosting Pysanky: The Art of Ukrainian Egg Dying art class on March 9 from 1-3:30 p.m. Come out and learn a new skill and maybe it will become a favorite hobby. Barbour activities abound

Hello from Barbour County, where we traded the snow for rain and flooding. Tacy Community Association will be having a breakfast fundraiser on Feb. 8 from 7 a.m - noon. Menu consists of buckwheat cakes, pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy. There will be a cost for adults, and for children ages 6-10. Children age 5 and under are free. There will be a 4-H Bingo at the Philip Barbour High School cafeteria on Feb. 8 beginning at 2 p.m. For more information, call 304-457-3254. Iris Hayes Jenner, a daughter of Austin and Marissa Jenner of Martinsburg was born on Jan. 1, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. She weighed 2 pounds and 8 ounces and was 16 and a half inches long. She was born at the Berkeley Medical Center. Grandparents are Joe and Beth Long and Marcus and Angela Jenner.

Barbour offers activities

Hello from Barbour County! Are you staying warm enough? I suppose the highlight of everyone’s conversations lately has been the cold temperatures.  Belington Bakery will be having its one-year anniversary party on Jan. 25 from 6-8 p.m. Come out and celebrate with them and enjoy poetry, music and storytelling. This is a free event. Kylie Proudfoot-Payne will be having an “Intro to Drawing” workshop at the Belington Golden Rule on Jan. 26 from 1-2:30 p.m. There is a cost for the workshop. All ages are welcome (age 10 and under with an adult).
