Battlers Knob hosting second Salute to Veterans

PHILIPPI — Battlers Knob is set to host its second annual Salute to Veterans next Saturday, Nov. 8 on the Battlers Knob campus in Philippi.

The event promises a day filled with patriotic activities designed to honor and appreciate local veterans.

Kicking off at 7 a.m., participants can join the 5K Ruck and Run or the Mountaineer Mile Walk.

From 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Heiner Hall will feature a free Veterans Information Fair with various organizations showcasing the services they provide to veterans.

A Field of Honor Ceremony displaying 950 American Flags, which represent the number of veterans that call Barbour County home, will be held on the campus green space at 11 a.m., and will feature remarks by Lt. Col. RET USMC and WV Commissioner of Agriculture Kent Leonhardt.

The inaugural Barbour County Quilts For Veterans Project Presentation follows at 1 p.m. in Burbick Hall.

At 3:30 p.m., attendees will enjoy a free screening of an award-winning military documentary about a Fairmont Vietnam veteran, created by a West Virginia filmmaker and veteran, who will be present to answer questions.

The day will conclude with live patriotic entertainment by West Virginia entertainer Lee Dean, a show that will be free to all veterans, at 6 p.m..

A free hot dog dinner will be available to all who attend the day’s events, while supplies last.
