Newsweek honors St. Joseph’s Hospital
BUCKHANNON– WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital has been named to Newsweek’s America’s Best-in-State Hospitals 2026 list, recognizing hospitals that deliver exceptional quality, safety, and patient satisfaction across the United States.
In this year’s report, only eight hospitals in West Virginia earned a place on the prestigious list — and among them, St. Joseph’s Hospital was the only hospital to also receive Newsweek’s “Patient Experience Award.”
Compiled by Newsweek in partnership with global data research firm Statista, the America’s Best-in-State Hospitals rankings evaluate hospitals based on a combination of performance data, reputation surveys from medical professionals, patient experience scores, and patient-reported outcome measures.
“We are truly honored to be recognized among the best hospitals in West Virginia,” said Skip Gjolberg, President of WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital. “To be one of just eight hospitals recognized statewide — and the only one to also earn the Patient Experience Award — is an incredible reflection of the compassion, professionalism, and excellence of our entire team. Our staff live out their mission in ensuring that every patient feels cared for, respected, and valued.”
The America’s Best-in-State Hospitals list highlights facilities that demonstrate outstanding outcomes, continuous quality improvement, and strong community trust.
Recognition for Patient Experience further emphasizes excellence in communication, staff responsiveness, and the overall care experience from a patient’s perspective.
“This achievement showcases the strength of the WVU Medicine system and the exceptional work being done locally here in Buckhannon,” Gjolberg added. “Our hospital may be small, but our heart is big — and this honor shows that world-class care truly happens right here at home.”
