Capito, Manchin announce virus housing recipients

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced three Mainstream Voucher Program recipients in West Virginia through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The additional funding was included in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). This funding will be used to assist public housing agencies in West Virginia with services and expenses in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s important that our West Virginians have access to affordable and safe housing, especially due to coronavirus and all the challenges associated with the pandemic,” Capito said. “I am encouraged to see this additional funding coming to West Virginia to support several of our larger cities and their public housing sectors. West Virginians have been incredibly strong throughout this time, and I will continue to work to ensure they have the resources they communities need to remain safe and healthy.”

“Everyone deserves to have a roof over their head, no matter their circumstances. The COVID-19 pandemic has created instability for many of our neighbors and friends with disabilities, and this this funding will help West Virginians who need it most. Investing in a public housing infrastructure is critical to the health of our communities, and I will continue to fight for funding that helps West Virginians live independent, productive lives,” Manchin said.
