ELKINS -- Officials announced Wednesday that five more residents in Randolph County have tested positive for COVID-19, aside from Huttonsville Correctional Center.
Randolph Elkins Health Department Infectious Disease Nurse Bonnie Woodrum said the latest positive cases were reported Wednesday afternoon. She urged everyone to make sure they protect themselves as the number of cases continue to increase in Randolph County.
"Things are really blowing up because of Huttonsville (Correctional Center)," Woodrum said. "People need to start protecting themselves. They need to practice social distancing and wear a facial covering if you are going out. You have to take care of yourselves."
Woodrum said nearly all of the cases in Randolph County have been asymptomatic. Woodrum is also urging residents to make use of trusted sources like the CDC and the West Virginia Division of Health and Human Resources to gather information.
As of Wednesday at 5:45 p.m., West Virginia has reported a total of 1,899 positive cases of COVID-19, with 74 deaths.
