Free testing offered in Barbour today

PHILIPPI -- Free COVID-19 testing will be offered today in Barbour County, which is currently listed as orange on the state's color-coded map.

The free testing will be offered today through Friday at the Junior Volunteer Fire Department on Row Avenue in Junior, from 1-5 p.m. each afternoon.

Barbour County's infection rate and positivity rate, the two factors which determine what color a county is designated, have both gone down since Friday. Barbour's infection rate stood at 83.42 on Tuesday, down from 87.76 on Friday. The Barbour positivity rate was 7.17 on Tuesday, down from 8.52 on Friday, according to the state Department of Health & Human Resources.

Randolph County was listed as green on the DHHR map Tuesday. Randolph has 134 active cases Tuesday, down from 161 active cases Monday, according to the Randolph-Elkins Health Department. Two cases are currently hospitalized, officials said.

Randolph has had 810 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 673 recoveries and three deaths, following the death of a 65-year-old man over the weekend.

The health department states that Davis & Elkins College currently has no active cases.

Tucker County, which was listed as yellow on the state color-coded map Tuesday, had 69 active cases as of Monday, up from 66 cases on Saturday, according to the Tucker County Health Department. The county also has seven active outbreaks, officials said.

Tucker has had a total of 216 confirmed cases, with 147 recoveries and no deaths.

Upshur County was listed as green on Tuesday's DHHR map. As of the weekend, Upshur had 78 active cases, and a total of 553 confirmed cases and four deaths, according to the Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department.

On the state's school reentry metrics map, which is update on Saturdays, Barbour County is listed as red, and the county school system is on remote learning.

Upshur County, which is listed as gold on the map, has voluntarily moved to full remote learning.

Randolph and Tucker counties are listed as green on Saturday's school reentry metrics map.
