Randolph receives more vaccine

ELKINS — The Randolph-Elkins Health Department has received 150 more doses of COVID-19 vaccine and the Randolph County Senior Center is making appointments for senior citizens 80 years and older to be vaccinated on Thursday.

The doses will be administered — by appointment only — by the Randolph-Elkins Health Department from 1-5 p.m. Thursday at the Phil Gainer Community Center in Elkins.

“There are many doses/appointments still available,” Laura Ward, executive director of the Randolph County Senior Center, told The Inter-Mountain Tuesday afternoon.

Anyone wishing to make an appointment for a Randolph County resident age 80 or older may call 304-636-4764.

“Please note that this is a dedicated phone line for scheduling purposes only,” a Randolph County Senior Center post on social media states. “It will be answered 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. until appointments for all doses have been made. It may be very difficult to get through, but please keep calling until you get an answer. No voice mails left at this number will receive a response.

“Please do not call the Senior Center or the Health Department numbers to schedule, as staff there will be unable to help you.”

The Senior Center post also thanked the Randolph-Elkins Health Department “for keeping the vaccines for our seniors coming! We have approximately 1,500 folks 80 years of age and better in our county, so we are steadily working to get all our elders protected from COVID.

“We know everyone is anxious to receive the vaccine, and want all of you to have it as soon as possible. Thank you for being patient and kind with the folks involved in this process,” the post states. “We are all doing the best we can in a difficult situation, and we will get through this together, folks!”

The Randolph County Senior Center hosted a vaccination event last week in which more than 100 seniors 80 and up were vaccinated on Wednesday through Saturday.
