ELKINS — A Randolph County man is behind bars after police allegedly found multiple drugs in his possession early Tuesday morning.
Josue Mateo-Bonilla, 38, has been charged with possession with intent and is lodged in the Tygarts Valley Regional Jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond set by Randolph County Magistrate Mike Dyer.
While on patrol in the area of First and John Street, Elkins Police Department Patrolmen D.T. Sayre and N.G. Elbon observed a car parked along the street, with the engine running, with three occupants, according to the criminal complaint.
Once officers made contact with the three individuals, including Mateo-Bonilla, who was in the passenger front seat, a white tube was spotted between the defendant’s legs, and they saw a set of digital scales lying next to him, the complaint states.
While the three individuals were exiting the vehicle, Mateo-Bonilla was seen to be in possession of a knife and failed to drop the weapon when being commanded to do so by the officers, the police report states. Officers also noticed a pistol in a black holster in his waistband that he was reaching toward.
Mateo-Bonilla was “extracted from the vehicle” and officers were able to successfully retrieve the knife and firearm from him, according to the police report. While searching the car officers found, near where Mateo-Bonilla had been sitting, a plastic baggie containing a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, a white/grey powdery substance believed to be heroin/fentanyl, and several rectangle-shaped pills believed to be Xanax. An additional scale and baggie was found on the passenger side where Mateo-Bonilla was sitting.
Mateo-Bonilla was taken to Elkins City Hall for processing before being transported to the TVRJ.
