MILL CREEK — A Valley Bend man was arrested after a traffic stop on Tuesday evening.
William S. Hammonds, 54, was charged with driving with license revoked for DUI – third offense. He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond set by Randolph County Magistrate Ben Shepler.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Cpl. S.D. Kyle of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, along with Sgt. B.W. Cogar, were on routine traffic patrol in the Mill Creek area and observed a white Ford F-150 that “matched the description of a vehicle that was provided through a tip that Scottie Hammonds was known to be driving,” the criminal complaint states.
Officers were aware that Hammonds had a driver’s license which is revoked for DUI, according to the complaint. They ran the registration number displayed on the vehicle “and it returned to a 2001 Ford F-150. The vehicle it was displayed on was a newer body style than a 2001 model.”
The officers initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Hammonds, the complaint states. 911 staff confirmed that Hammonds had been convicted of driving while revoked for DUI on May 7. “The VIN number on the vehicle was run through 911 and returned to be a 2004 Ford F-150 with a different VIN number than the registration.”
Hammonds was unable to provide proof of insurance on the vehicle, and officers removed him from the vehicle and placed him under arrest, according to the complaint. “Laying on the drivers seat was a corner bag of a white crystal-like substance consistent with meth. The crystal-like substance had an approximated weight of 1.5 grams.”
