ELKINS — The Randolph County Commission agreed to finance a camera system for the pool-splash pad project at the Elks Lodge Thursday, and announced the facility’s schedule and pricing for the upcoming season.

Commission President David Kesling and fellow Commissioner Cris Siler were present at the meeting and voted to fund the new system, that will consist of 16 indoor/outdoor cameras at the pool/splash pad.

“For liability purposes, the camera system is going to be for every area around the pool, as well as the walkways to it,” Kesling said. “It’s a large investment in the beginning, but I think it will help if there is ever any kind of incident at the facility.”

Digital Soup, which provided an estimate to the commission and was awarded the job, will be setting up and installing the cameras at the pool. The cost for the cameras and the installation supplies will come to $6,384. The server and rack system for the cameras total $4,924 and the labor will come to $3,500.

The total price of the camera project will be $19,062.92. The money will be taken from the county’s hotel-motel tax fund.

During Thursday’s meeting, Kesling also announced the dates and times that the pool/splash pad will be open for the upcoming season. He also offered a breakdown of how much it will cost residents to swim at the facility.

“The Elks pool committee came up with the dates and costs and presented it to the county commission,” Kesling said. “They went around and looked at other pools in the area and are basing their pricing on their rates and their times of operation.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the pool will take place on the Friday before Memorial Day, May 26. The pool will officially be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. the following day.

After opening day, the pool will be open Mondays through Fridays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. On Saturdays and Sundays, it will be open from 11 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Renting the pool/splash pad for a party must be scheduled during times in the evening when the pool is not open to the public, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The daily rates for 4 years old and older will be $5. The summer rate for the same age group is $65. Children 3 years old and under can swim free with a paying adult.

A special rate will be offered for families, no matter the size, at $165 for the season. There will be no refund for weather or ejections from the facility, and children 11 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The rental fee for parties at the pool/splash pad is $150. To rent the splash pad by itself is $75. The facility will be open through Labor Day.
