Ribbon-cutting set in Elkins Friday

ELKINS — The Recovery Resource Group will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Behavioral Health Center Friday at its location at 1123 South Davis Avenue.

The celebration is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will feature refreshments for those who attend. Recovery Resource Group staff members, along with its executive team, will be on hand to answer any questions.

Elkins Mayor Jerry Marco and representatives from city council are also scheduled to attend the event.

The center, which is located in Dr. James Gainer’s former office next to 12th Street, opened one year ago this month and since then has provided treatment to more than 250 Randolph County residents.

“We’ve actually been open for quite a while,” RRG site director Thomas Pennington told The Inter-Mountain this week. “It’s just been a process trying to get everyone together at the same time for a ceremony.

“We want to get our name out in the community and let everyone know we are here. Some of our patients were actually traveling out of state for the same services we offer here. So we want to get the word out about our services.”

Recovery Resource Group’s primary focus is to provide quality care to individuals on a personal and individualized level.

“As we recognize the ongoing need for treating mental health and substance use disorder, we believe in the many components necessary for the success of our patients,” said Matt Wharton, Community Engagement Specialist/Peer Recovery Support Specialist for RRG. “We hope to help fight the substance use and mental health epidemic in the area.”

The Recovery Resource Group, which also has a center in Huntington, is a Licensed Behavioral Health Center that treats substance use disorder and mental health issues.

“We specialize in behavioral health with emphasis on substance use,” Pennington said. “It’s pretty much dual diagnoses, we are doing mental health and substance abuse.

“We offer individualized therapy and another vital part that we do is peer support. We have someone who has lived the experience, get out and engage with our patients and advocate for them in the community. They are there to help them overcome some of the everyday barriers that most people are able to overcome without the use of a substance.”

The organization’s mission statement states that the Recover Resource Group is committed to the wellness of individuals, their families, and the community through prevention, intervention, treatment, and education through quality care and best practices.

Services offered at the center include medically assisted treatment, peer support services, professional therapy, primary care/wellness, group therapy, case management, supportive counseling and referral services.
