82-year-old man charged with 5 counts of attempted murder

BUCKHANNON – An 82-year-old man has been arrested and charged with five counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Marvin D. “Buck” Tenney, of Buckhannon, is facing the five counts of attempted first-degree murder, as well as counts of retaliation against a witness, leaving the scene of an crash causing serious bodily injury, fleeing with reckless indifference, fleeing while DUI, and DUI causing serious bodily injury, all felonies.

He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.

According to a press release from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday at approximately 2 a.m., deputies received 911 calls about multiple vehicles crashed into residences near Tenney’s Mobile Home Park in Buckhannon. Officers discovered that the driver had left the scene.

Deputies located the suspect, Tenney, in a 1990 Ford pickup truck on South Florida Street, driving without headlights, the release states. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop.

During the pursuit, Tenney “drove to Martin St. and drove into a residence,” the release states. “After the crash, Sheriff Coffman used fire extinguishers to extinguish a fire from the vehicle, which would have endangered the residents and the dwelling itself.”

Officers determined that Tenney drove into three residences in an “attempt to murder multiple people that he believed had wronged him,” the release states. “One victim is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and the other two are being treated for serious injuries at Ruby Memorial Hospital” in Morgantown.
