Elkins paving to begin in Second Ward

ELKINS — Paving in the City of Elkins’ Second Ward is scheduled to begin today, city officials said.

Southern West Virginia Paving will start the milling and paving of city streets in Second Ward at about 7 a.m. this morning.

“The work is expected to last for a couple of days, pending any unforeseen events,” a City of Elkins press release states.

The streets to be paved are White Oak Lane, Wilton Avenue and Southview Drive.

“There are five wards in total in Elkins,” Shawn Akers, street department supervisor for the City of Elkins, told The Inter-Mountain Tuesday. “This will be the first one we’re starting to pave in.

“All these streets are real close together. They’re within a block of one another,” Akers said. “That way, with starting on a Wednesday, they can knock them out this week, hopefully.

“This will finish up Second Ward,” he added. “It will be up to West Virginia Paving where the next batch of paving will be, according to how much time they have to do it in.”

Akers cautioned that the dates are subject to change.

“You just never know what could pop up or what could happen,” he said. “I don’t want to jinx it. But it should go fairly quickly.”

West Virginia Paving, Inc., a CRH Company, is an asphalt producer, paving contractor and highway construction contractor. The company operates 13 asphalt plants, and other partnerships throughout the state.
