STONEWOOD — A high-speed police pursuit that began in Upshur County and wound through three counties ended with the suspect being captured Tuesday evening.

Zackery Michael Shook, of Mount Clair, was arrested after abandoning his battered vehicle and fleeing on foot into the woods, according to a release from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office.

Shook is being charged in Upshur and Harrison counties for felony fleeing and felony fleeing while under a controlled substance.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Shook had not been arraigned, with an anonymous source in Upshur County government saying Shook has several health issues, and it might be several days before he is capable of being arraigned.

The multi-county high speed chase started in Upshur County and continued 38 miles through Lewis County into Harrison County, police said.

Shook was apprehended in Stonewood, after jumping out of the vehicle and fleeing on foot. K-9s officers, drones and manpower from multiple law enforcement agencies were deployed in the search for Shook, according to the release.

The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office thanked all the assisting agencies for their help in the press release.
