ELKINS — On the eve of the 2024 General Election, Randolph County Clerk Brenda Wiseman and her staff were busy getting everything in order for the polls that will officially open today at 6:30 a.m.
Voters across the state will have the opportunity to vote until late in the evening, when the polls close at 7:30 p.m.
“Everything is going good, the poll workers were coming in throughout the day and picking up their supplies,” Wiseman told The Inter-Mountain Monday. “We took out the big DS200s, the ballot boxes, and delivered them to all the precincts early in the morning. So everything is going pretty smoothly.”
Wiseman also said she felt the General Election’s early voting period was a great success in Randolph County.
A total of 5,791 residents made their way to the Wees Annex in Elkins or the Russell Memorial Library in Mill Creek to vote early this year, she said.
Randolph County currently has 17,773 registered voters.
“That’s the most people we’ve had come out for early voting since I’ve been here,” said Wiseman, who has been Randolph County Clerk since 2006. “I was looking back at the 2020 election and the early voting numbers were just a little over 5,000, so I expected it to be a little high this time again.
“When I kept seeing the lines at the early voting locations almost every day, I knew it was going to be a pretty good turnout. A lot of people like voting early.”
Today, voters in three separate precincts will have to make their way to different locations to cast their ballots in the General Election. Voters in Precincts 27 and 26 typically vote at the Elkins Middle School. But because of ongoing issues with the air quality at that location, those voters are being redirected to the Phil Gainer Community Center.
Voters from Precinct 25, meanwhile, will vote at the Wees Annex instead of the James F. Cain Courthouse Annex. The change was made because of ongoing construction taking place in the Cain Annex.
In the Elkins District, voters in Precinct 23 and 24 will vote at Jennings Randolph Elementary School today.
Precinct 28A and Precinct 75 voting will be at Third Ward Elementary, while Precinct 30 will be at Randolph Arts Center, Precinct 31 at Elkins Senior Center, Precinct 80 at North School, and Precinct 85 at Midland Elementary.
The Cheat District voting locations are: Precinct 150 Coalton School; Precinct 155 Midland; Precinct 160 North School; Precinct 165 Leading Creek Fire Department; Precinct 170 Nazarene Youth Center; Precinct 180 Bowden Family Worship Center; Precinct 185 Harman High School; and Precinct 190 at Whitmer Fire Department.
The Tygart District locations are: Precinct 200 and Precinct 202 Beverly Fire Department; Precinct 205 Tygart Valley Fire Department; Precinct 210 Huttonsville Community Center; Precinct 215 Valley Head Library; Precinct 220 Pickens School; and Precinct 225 and Precinct 227 George Ward School.
