Randolph County CLIMB to offer ‘Operation Backpack’ Saturday
ELKINS — Randolph County CLIMB will host “Operation Backpack” on Saturday in the parking lot of the West Virginia Wood Technology Center.
The back-to-school giveaway will take place from 10 a.m. until noon, and will offer free backpacks and supplies for area school students preparing for the opening day of school in August.
Each child in attendance will receive a backpack filled with items including binders, folders, notebooks, highlighters and more.
Children taking part in the event will also have access to free hygiene supplies, including shampoo, soap, body wash, deodorant, feminine hygiene products and more.
The purpose of Operation Backpack is to ensure that children going back to school feel prepared and confident entering the new school year. Children must be present to receive a backpack and those attending will also be treated to a refreshing popsicle treat.
Operation Backpack is a community initiative that is made possible through the generous support of local businesses, organizations and individuals. Randolph County CLIMB extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to the upcoming event.
“Operation Backpack is a small way we can make a big difference for students and families in our community,” said CLIMB Board President Beth Cooper. “We’re incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support that has made this event possible.”
As of July 25, Randolph County CLIMB was prepared to fill close to 300 backpacks for this weekend’s event. More items are needed, however, and donations can be dropped off at the West Virginia Wood Technology Center, which is located on 11th Street. Donations can also be made online at https://givebutter.com/q2oHH6.
