Equipment failure temporarily closes Buckhannon transfer station

BUCKHANNON — The City of Buckhannon Waste Department Transfer Station should be back in operation after the weekend, city officials said.

The City released a statement on Thursday announcing that the Buckhannon Waste Department Transfer Station, including the public recycling area, would be closed temporarily “due to equipment failure” until further notice.

“The compactor is down,” Utilities Clerk Lisa Lamb told The Inter-Mountain on Friday. “So, they’ll definitely be closed today (Friday) and then possibly tomorrow (Saturday) also.”

When asked if the closure might continue into Monday, Lamb said that the issue “will be fixed before next week.”

Lamb confirmed the City’s statement that the Waste Department will continue to service all customers during the closure, “following the normal pickup schedule.”

“We will announce when we can reopen as soon as the repairs are made,” The City of Buckhannon said in their release. “Thank you for your patience.”

Lamb also confirmed that the closure will have no impact on the Aug. 8 bulk yard waste collection for City of Buckhannon residents.

Beginning Sept. 1, bulk waste will be collected every Friday through Nov. 30, the City of Buckhannon announced on their website. City residents must contact Buckhannon City Hall to be placed on the collection list, and may take their bagged yard waste to the Transfer Station during normal operating hours at no charge. Residents are also permitted to bring two truckloads per year, also at no charge.

Starting at $3.92/week.
