ELKINS — The City of Elkins gave vandals until 6 p.m. Friday to come forward after “deep tire tracks” were left in the grassy areas of Glendale Park.

In a press release, the City of Elkins stated that the Elkins Police Department is actively investigating extensive property damage in Glendale Park caused by at least one vehicle. The incident occurred on the evening of Nov. 10.

The incident left “deep tire tracks” across the grounds, rendering key areas, such as the soccer fields used by youth sports leagues, temporarily unusable, the release states. The EPD is currently reviewing available security footage from the night of the incident.

Elkins Mayor Jerry Marco has asked those responsible for the vandalism to turn themselves in.

“We are calling on the individuals who caused this damage to do the right thing: hold yourselves accountable and come forward now,” Marco said in the statement. “Our Parks and Recreation crew works tirelessly to maintain our parks for everyone, and this irresponsible act disrespects their efforts and the entire community that relies on our public spaces.”

Marco has also set a deadline for the individuals involved to come forward.

“If we do not hear from you by Friday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m., we will intensify our investigation and pursue prosecution to the fullest extent of the law,” Marco said in the release.

In a post on social media, the City of Elkins stated that the city parks are for all residents and that the individuals involved in the vandalism had damaged a “shared space that Elkins’ Parks and Rec staff strive to maintain for everyone.”

The City called on anyone with information to come forward and speak with the EPD.

“The irresponsible driving at Glendale Park on Nov. 10 didn’t just tear up grass — it tore up a place where our kids play and our community gathers,” the post states. “We need your help. If you know who was responsible for this damage, or if it was you, we are asking you to come forward. Let’s work together to fix this.”

Anyone with information to share about the incident is urged to call the Elkins Police Department at 304-636-0678.
